At the weekend we visited Liverpool to take a tour around the city and capture some footage. We came across Matthew St, a vibrant and historic street that pulses with music and memories. The narrow cobblestone lane echoes with the footsteps of countless music legends, most famously The Beatles, who helped transform this humble street into a global music landmark.
The Beatles' story is deeply woven into Matthew Street's fabric. The Cavern Club was their launching pad - playing an incredible 292 shows here between 1961-1963 before exploding onto the world stage. This legacy lives on today through the street's vibrant nightlife and music scene.
During our visit, we filmed some of Matthew Street's most popular bars. Eric's Liverpool, a legendary venue that helped launch Liverpool's punk scene in the late 70s, has been reborn as a modern bar while keeping its rebellious spirit. SGT Peppers Mathew St, themed after the iconic Beatles album, offers live music and Beatles memorabilia in a lively atmosphere. The Rubber Soul Mathew St, named after another classic Beatles album, keeps the party going with its energetic atmosphere and regular live performances.
The Kaiserkeller, inspired by the Hamburg club where The Beatles honed their craft, brings a piece of German beer hall atmosphere to Liverpool. King John Liverpool, a traditional English pub with a modern twist, adds to the street's diverse mix of venues, offering a different vibe from the Beatles-themed establishments.
Each of these venues adds its own flavor to Matthew Street's unique atmosphere, where history meets contemporary nightlife. The street comes alive at night with music spilling out from every doorway, keeping Liverpool's incredible musical heritage pumping through its veins.
